Vishnu Varshney,
Founder & Managing Director
A pioneer of Venture capital funding in India, he has
35 years of experience in Project Finance including 18
years in Venture Capital. Mr Vishnu Varshney has helped
found GVFL in 1990, under the aegis OF World Bank and
GIIC. He has been the President & CEO since its inception.
Mr Varshney is an Electrical Engineer from IIT,
Kanpur, followed by MS and MBA from Louisiana
State University, USA.
He was selected by World Bank to participate in a Venture
Capital training course in 1991 in US with Hambro
International Equity partners, Boston and has
also undergone a venture capital training organized by
NASBIC and NVCA in the US in 1991.
He is one of the oldest Venture Capitalist in India who
has witnessed complete cycle of Fund raising,
investing, divesting and distributing. With his
vision to nurture start up companies by adding value,
he has turned GVFL as a Specialist in
funding start up and cutting edge technology companies.
His leadership qualities has enabled him to raise six
Venture funds with a combined capital of 2041.70 million
GVFL has so far made 67 investments and
55 exits and has currently launched a
SME Technology Venture Fund with target corpus of 2500
million
Mr Varshney was the co-founder of Indian Venture
Capital Association (IVCA). He served as a Secretary
of IVCA (1995-97) and then Chairman (1997-2000) He was
a member of KB Chandrasekhar committee
appointed by SEBI for drafting VC guidelines. He has been
actively associated with CII, Nasscom, Indo American Chamber
Of Commerce (IACC) and Ahmedabad chapter of TIE.

felicitated Mr Varshney with the APVCA 2006 Inaugural
Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution
to the Venture Capital Private Equity Industry In Asia
His publications include a book named ”Global
Venture Handbook” which was coauthored
by him and published by Asptore books,Boston,USA..He has
also coauthored a book on SME Finance
published by Tata McGraw Hill on behalf of SIDBI and Swedish
Development Corporation. He has recently authored
a book on Venture Finance in India. Mr
Varshney has promoted the cause of Venture Capital at
various seminars and conferences in USA, Hongkong, Singapore
and Mauritius
